Manifiesto Sociale: Cheratite da Acanthamoeba – Rara, Subdola e Oggi Curabile
December 2024 – Our Italian ambassador and AK Warrior, Alvise Callegari, along with AK Warrior Alice Sotero (Fiamme Azzurre), an Italian pentathlete who participated in the 2024 Olympics, took part in a significant social manifesto on Acanthamoeba keratitis. The event, held on 5 December in Rome, aimed to raise awareness about this rare and insidious condition, which is now curable with proper treatment.
This initiative highlighted the ongoing efforts to educate the public and healthcare professionals about Acanthamoeba keratitis and the progress being made in its diagnosis and treatment. The participation of prominent figures such as Alice Sotero helped draw attention to the importance of early detection and the potential for healing.
Together, Alvise and Alice shared their personal experiences and the importance of raising awareness, stressing that with the right treatment, individuals affected by AK can regain their vision and quality of life.
